In this week’s Shuukan Idol, we get a big load of MVs to enjoy from SILENT SIREN, NMB48, UP UP GIRLS (2), ANGERME, and more. Add in a few single/album announcements from Momusu, SKE48, HKT48, and SCANDAL and you’ll have a great idea of what to expect (a lot of MVs).
That and more in our 7 highlights of the week!
News
> SILENT SIREN go for a walk in Sayonara Hibiya
SILENT SIREN are trying out something pretty cool with their latest MV, showing off 4 clips of the members walking as they go through their daily lives. It’s a nice touch to see the members cross paths here and there, even if the MV is on the short side.
> NMB48 throw a home party in the MV for Which one
Do you want something a bit more different compared to other NMB48 releases? You’re in luck since Which one features a more traditional J-pop feel combined with some of the best visuals I’ve seen in an NMB48 video. Highly recommended!
> UP UP GIRLS (2) dance among umbrellas in Doshaburi no Terrace Seki
UP UP GIRLS (2) are back, nose flute and all, with their 2nd single packed full of umbrellas and color to enjoy. This time, we get to see what will most likely be their center from now on with a story revolving around their center. It’s an impressive release and one that’s well worth a look!
> ANGERME get classical in Kisoku Tadashiku Utsukushiku and modern in Kimi Dake Janai sa … friends
ANGERME have been raising the bar with some solid MVs, with their latest two being some of the most impressive. Sure, fans will be disappointed to see that the MVs are short, but, when you release a DVD/Blu-ray single it’s expected to see them tease fans with a short preview of what they’ll get when they buy it. Check both of them out!
> Morning Musume ’17 sing along in their digital-only single Gosenfu no Tasuki
Turning 20 is a big deal in Japan, so it’s not surprising to see Hello! Project continue the celebration for Morning Musume’s 20th anniversary. With H!P diving into digital-only releases it’s not surprising to see them release a ballad to commemorate the special occasion. A brief MV and a link to get your copy on iTunes are both available above.
Want even more for Momusu’s 20th anniversary? This time we’re getting an entire album full of collaborations with OG members and current members. This is a must have for Momusu fans!
> LADYBABY’s Kaneko Rie is going to the art-side with her new project trolleattroll
Good news: We got an update about LADYBABY’s Kaneko Rie.
Bad news: It’s not about LADYBABY.
News: It’s about an art project she’s launched to celebrate her turning 20. We even got an MV and a new profile picture, which is sure to be one of the most unique on the idol scene. Check it out above and be prepared for several shots of flowers.
Notable mentions:
- Zenbu Kimi no Sei Da are looking for a new member
- Cheeky Parade rock out in the live MV for Bokura no Uta
- SKE48 get flowery in the covers for their 22nd single

Encore
This week we have WHY@DOLL and their MV for Show Me Your Smile. Out January 23rd, the single will be released in one edition.
It’s hard to find an idol group that goes for something that is not a ballad nowadays, but thankfully we have WHY@DOLL to change that up. Their latest release is a treat, showing off a pop swing sound that is among the catchiest I’ve heard in some time.
In this MV, we get to see this “organic girls unit” perform on stage while a projection plays on top of them. It’s nothing too complicated, but it works perfectly with the song thanks in part to their outfits, cute voices, and colorful spotlights that light them up.
Make sure to check out this adorable release below, and show their support by grabbing a copy of this single!
