Morning Musume ’17 and Sashihara Rino To Collaborate On AKB48’s 8th Album Song

Morning Musume Sashihara Rino

Morning Musume ’17 and HKT48’s Sashihara Rino will be collaborating on a song for AKB48’s 8th album titled Thumbnail.

Out January 25th, the song will be titled Get you! and will be exclusive to Type A of the album.

It’s a surprising addition that might be a tad on the divisive side to a small amount of hardcore Momusu and AKB48 fans, but to most it will be a welcome addition.

Sashihara Rino has openly been a big fan of Morning Musume since her elementary school days. In fact, she’s followed them on 2ch for years and mentioned that she is happy to work with the group on a song. Instead of it being simply “Sashihara Rino x Morning Musume”, the collaboration will result in a unit called Sashining Musume.

Sashining Musume will include Sashihara Rino alongside leader Fukumura Mizuki, Ikuta Erina, Iikubo Haruna, Ishida Ayumi, Sato Masaki, Kudo Haruka, Oda Sakura, Ogata Haruna, Nonaka Miki, Makino Maria, Haga Akane, as well as newcomers Kaga Kaede and Yokoyama Reina.

Fukumura Mizuki did give us a hint for what to expect and it seems like it won’t be a typical idol song, but it still had a fun vibe to it. There is a duet part where she sings alongside Sashihara, so it should be interesting to see how that turns out.

Sato Masaki sums it up best, mentioning how singing brought them closer and how any rivalry feelings were more in tune to a sister relationship instead of pure competition.

Personally, being a Momusu fan for almost a decade means I have been through the days where AKB48 was slowly gaining traction and Momusu was at the top with a fierce rivalry between the two. Sure, there might be a few feelings of competition but in the end they’re both idol groups and each have some amazingly talented members.

Unfortunately most reactions online tend to be on the negative side so far, but it’s a great way to extend a hand of peace between the two despite the many years of competition.

It will be great to see how the song turns out, and it’s interesting to note how Kaga Kaede and Yokoyama Reina’s 1st recorded song will be this collab with Sashihara Rino.

Fans who are interested in the album will also get to enjoy AKB48’s latest hits including LOVE TRIP and High Tension, so make sure to grab a copy!

  1. Unlike the aforementioned majority, I WELCOME to idea of an H!P/48G collaboration. It’s an open secret that the idols themselves generally don’t see the rest of the idol world as competition. (Rather, they don’t see it like the fans do.) As someone who’s been a Morning Musume fan for 12+ years, I’ve witnessed the “fan wars” between the two collectives and I’m glad relations have improved. (I remember when Ikuta Erina got minor flak for being into H!P and the 48s when she joined, to the point where her stoic expressions were interpreted as her not wanting to be in Momusu.)

I view this as the J-idol equivalent of the Mario & Sonic series (or even Sonic appearing in Super Smash Bros), a thawing of a (primarily fan-based) cold war between two rival companies.

I can’t wait it to arrive!

    1. Completely agree! Many AKB48 members joined that group because they wanted to be like Momusu members, so it’s great to see them cross in a way. I’m liking that Mario & Sonic reference since it’s completely accurate! Definitely looking forward to the song!
