AKB48 do a redo and add in Matsui Jurina in the MV for their 53rd single titled Sentimental Train.
Out since September 19th, the single was released in 10 editions.
You might be getting some strong deja vu right now, and for good reason. The MV for AKB48’s Sentimental Train has already been released since August 2018. Of course, this time was during Matsui Yurina’s hiatus, so her scenes were sketched in.
With her return to the group, her scenes have been added to the MV and it’s a mixed bag for the most part. The MV does have a new mix of scenes, but the majority of the drama scenes without Matsui Jurina are exactly the same. Think of it as an “alternate” version of the MV, with a full dance shot and the awkward scenes of cartoon Jurina taken out.
It’s still the ballad we know and love, with the members vocals all combining to form a rather powerful song. Nothing changes there apart from a few Jurina lines thrown in for the mix. If you enjoyed the song you’ll be happy, but there isn’t much there if you didn’t like it the first time.
So, what’s my opinion about the whole situation? I’m glad to see that they made good on their word to remake the MV. But, at the same time the half-finished MV was a rather odd choice to take. Another member should have been chosen instead of trying to make the MV work without Jurina, with her version coming in later on as a bonus.
It was a rather sloppy release, and it did take some time to release so reactions from fans are a bit mix. But, it seems to be better received compared to the original which is something to note. Here’s hoping we avoid a similar situation in the future. Give it a watch below!
