Shuukan Idol – Senbatsu, Nobatsu Edition (March 11- 17)

In this week’s Shuukan Idol, we have a ton of new MVs from CY8ER, Kamiyado, Maison book girl and others. Add in a surprise break in AKB48 tradition as well as a return single from an H!P soloist to complete our 7 highlights of the week!

> CY8ER sing in a dreamy, abandoned house for their Time Trip MV

CY8ER are among my favorite groups on the scene and with good reason: they have catchy and dreamy EDM music. Well, they’re releasing a song that looks back at their roots to show off just how adorable they can get. It’s dreamy, packed with feathers, and has an abandoned house as a setting. That’s all you need for a good time.

> Kamiyado dance in a temple for their upbeat Ohikaenasutte Kamiyado de Gozaru MV

Kamiyado are back to scratch our “fun idol” itch with an over the top MV that shows off just how random they can get. Picture a random old guy in a golden outfit dancing to some overly upbeat music as the members dance around a temple. It’s fun and well worth a watch if you’re in the mood for something lighthearted.

> Broken By The Scream make my ears bleed with joy in the MV for Haru Urara

BBTS are back to show off their metal idol music and it’s yet again an amazing song. Nothing too surprising, with most of the MV showing off the typical “band in the back, members in front” setting we’re used to. Typical video, non-typical song, give it a watch!

> Maison book girl walk in a grim factory in the MV for Kujira Koujou

Maison book girl are busting out the xylophones yet again with their latest single as they explore an abandoned factory during an apocalypse. It’s a weird MV, made even weirder because it’s not as fast-paced or overly artistic compared to their earlier days. Still worth a watch for the song alone though, it’s a good one.

> Devil ANTHEM. jam out with gas masks in the monochrome MV for Fake Factor

Devil ANTHEM. have been fairly well known for their EDM releases. But, in the past few singles they have been slowly adding in more guitars to match the more mature look of the group as the members age. The result: a monochromatic MV with awesome video effects and a song that will forever be stuck in my head.

> Mano Erina will release her 1st single since graduating from Hello! Project

Mano Erina captured the hearts of idol fans around the world with her adorable singing. But, since she graduated from Hello! Project, got married, and moved to Spain we haven’t heard her sing much. Thankfully, that’s about to change with an all new single to celebrate her 10 year major debut.

> No AKB48 Senbatsu for this year

Well, this is something. In a surprise twist we won’t be getting an AKB48 Senbatsu this year. Could it be due to the NGT48 scandal that’s going on right now? We don’t know, but what we do know is that it will be interesting to see just how they decide the lineup for that release.

Notable mentions

This week we have Yufu Terashima and her MV for Ii Onna wa Yoroshiku. Out April 17th, the single will be released in 3 editions.

Sometimes you have to put aside the metal idol songs and listen to a good ol’ fashioned idol release. For that, there’s no one better than Yufu Terashima, the former BiS member turned idol. She’s celebrating her 5 years as a solo idol with an interesting MV that fans are sure to appreciate.

In it we get a variety of scenes showing of Yufu as she does incredibly cute things, like chill in a home packed full of colorful decorations as she eats ramen from a pot. The overly cute poses and expressions are a bit over the top, but they work well for Yufu’s style of singing and image.

There’s also a cat in there that morphs into a stuffed cat that sings along to the song, feeds sushi to Yufu when she falls asleep, and fights against Yufu in a a video game. Does it make sense? No. Does it need to make sense? Not really, since it’s an adorable touch that works well.

I’m not too into Yufu’s overly cute releases but this one is a nice release to get your idol music fix, so check it out below!
