In this week’s Shuukan Idol, we have a variety of MVs from groups including Juice=Juice, Electric Ribbon, Shiritsu Ebisu Chuugaku, and more. Add in some covers for a new Momusu release and a couple of new Zenkimi members for our 7 highlights of the week!
News
> Colorpointe dance in black robes for their hauntingly dark “Witch Hunting Night” MV
Colorpointe might not have the popularity of big idol groups, but they do have a unique group theme: ballet idols. This gives us some unique MVs, like the one above which shows off the members in a dungeon while wearing dark robes. It’s perfect for those who love anything spooky, but still worth checking out if you want a unique track.
> Ototoy Friday dance in an obscure underground club in the MV for ENIGMA
The amount of idol MVs that contain secret underground dance clubs is on the low side. Thankfully Ototoy Friday are about to change that number with an MV that packs in some dark and unsettling scenes. See the members dance in some hooded outfits to the chillest electronic song ever.
> Shiritsu Ebisu Chuugaku help Kaho pack in the chill MV for Trendy Girl
Do you enjoy watching people do normal everyday things? Shiritsu Ebisu Chuugaku have you covered then, with their latest MV which shows off the members as they pack. That’s it. No dancing, no looking at the camera, and no cute posing. Just packing and some funny scenes, which is awesome.
> Nogizaka46 become student and teacher in No You na Sonzai and trade bodies in Heikousen
Nogizaka46 are one of those groups I haven’t had a chance to listen to that much. Well, I’m slowly but surely becoming a fan of them and the coupling MVs for their latest single are a great way to see what they’re about. One MV has a modern sound and a fanservice-y theme, while the other has an entertaining MV with a chill ballad.
> Zenbu Kimi no Sei Da have 2 new members
Zenkimi have been through a lot. They’ve lost 2 members due to a scandal, got a new member called Mene who they then lost due to her health issues, and then got Togaren who had a good run before announcing her departure last month. Well, if you were worried about the future of the group, worry no more: they’ve just added 2 new members.
> Electric Ribbon take a stroll downtown in the MV for Wonderland Disco
If you were only able to see one MV this entire week for some weird reason, make it this one. Electric Ribbon are incredibly underrated and their latest MV is a good example of how talented they are. It’s a simple walk through town, but that song is the catchiest piece of electronic idol music I’ve heard in a while. Watch it!
> Juice=Juice wait for Yuka as she goes out in the MV for 25sai Eien Setsu
With the announcement that Yuka would be graduating from Juice=Juice, it’s not surprising to see that we’d get a song to honor her legacy as leader. Thankfully, it’s a rather touching MV which shows Yuka as she goes around town and does a variety of errands before celebrating at home with the members. It’s simple, but a great goodbye!
Notable mentions
Encore
This week we have Tokyo Rockets and their MV for SAKURA PROMISE. Out since May 8th, the single was released in 2 editions.
Tokyo Rockets have a unique charm that is hard to find in other groups. Well, prepare yourself to enjoy some Tokyo Rockets music since we recently got a peek at their latest MV and it’s a treat.
Taking place in a giant room with some cool architecture, we get to see the group dance while wearing some pink jean jackets. The beat of the song is on the slower side, but it’s quite catchy, which matches the slow movements of the dance. Most of the MV takes place in this setting, which may be a bit boring for some but it works and the different angles some variety.
You may be asking yourself “But, the title says sakura, so where are the cherry blossoms?”. I’m glad you asked, since we do get a variety of scenes with this beautiful blossom in the background. Most of them are the typical “look out to the side and look cool” scenes but they’re well done. They also make for a colorful addition that prevents the MV from being an advertisement for the building where they dance.
It’s a simple MV but one that will scratch that itch for idol music. Check it out below!
